Why the extension matters
IDM is a Windows application, while your browser controls the web page and download request. The integration module connects the two. It helps IDM detect downloadable files, capture links, and add IDM actions to the browser context menu.
Chrome
- Open Chrome and go to the Extensions page.
- Look for IDM Integration Module.
- Enable the extension.
- Open Details and allow the permissions you need.
- If you use incognito mode, enable incognito access only if required.
The official IDM help explains that the Chrome extension may not be found by normal search because it is intended to be installed with IDM. If automatic installation fails, follow the official IDM instructions rather than installing random extensions.
Microsoft Edge

Remove fake extensions
Fake download manager extensions can look similar but are not the genuine IDM Integration Module. Remove any extension you do not recognize, especially if it asks for unusual permissions or was installed from an unofficial source.
After enabling the extension
Restart the browser and test with a normal file download. If the browser still handles the download itself, check IDM Options and browser integration settings. You may also need to update IDM if your browser recently changed.
