IDM Browser Integration Not Working in Chrome: Real Fixes

When IDM browser integration does not work in Chrome, downloads may start in the browser instead of IDM. Video download panels may not appear, or the “Download with IDM” option may be missing. The usual cause is the IDM Integration Module extension, browser permission settings, or an old IDM installation.

First check IDM itself

Open IDM and check that you are using the current version. IDM updates are important because browsers change frequently. If your browser updated but IDM is old, integration can stop working until IDM is updated.

In IDM, open Options and check browser integration settings. Make sure Chrome is selected. If Chrome is not listed, use the add browser option and point IDM to the Chrome executable if needed.

Check the IDM Integration Module extension

Chrome integration depends on the IDM Integration Module extension. IDM usually installs it automatically. However, the official IDM FAQ explains that the extension may not be searchable in the Chrome Web Store because it is designed to be used with IDM, not separately.

1. Open Chrome.
2. Go to Extensions.
3. Search for IDM Integration Module in the installed extensions list.
4. Make sure it is enabled.
5. Allow it to work in the required browsing mode if you need it there.

Remove fake or duplicate extensions

If you installed an IDM-looking extension from an unknown source, remove it. Fake extensions can break integration or create security risks. Keep only the genuine IDM Integration Module.

Repair IDM installation

If the extension is missing and browser settings look correct, reinstall or repair IDM from the official installer. Close Chrome before reinstalling. After installation, reopen Chrome and check whether the extension prompt appears.
