Quick answer
A complete checklist for fixing IDM when it does not capture downloads from your browser.
If Internet Download Manager is installed but downloads still start in the browser, IDM is not catching the download request. The problem can be browser integration, extension permission, file type settings, website restrictions, antivirus filtering, or an old IDM version.
Start with the simple checks

- Restart IDM and the browser.
- Update IDM to the latest version.
- Check that IDM is not paused or blocked by security software.
- Try a normal file download from a different website.
If IDM catches downloads from one website but not another, the issue may be website-specific. If it catches nothing, check integration settings first.
Check browser integration in IDM
Open IDM Options and make sure browser integration is enabled. Confirm that your browser is selected. IDM supports popular browsers and has browser integration settings for normal and advanced use cases.
If your browser is not listed, add it manually using the browser executable. This is useful for portable browsers or browsers installed in non-standard locations.
Check file types
IDM catches downloads based partly on file type and browser behavior. In IDM options, check the file types list. If a file extension is missing, IDM may not take over that download. Add the file type only if you understand what it is, because adding too many types can make browsing inconvenient.
Check extension permissions
For Chrome, Edge and Firefox, the browser extension or add-on must be enabled. In private browsing or incognito mode, the extension often needs separate permission. If you need IDM in incognito mode, allow the extension there intentionally.
Run browser and IDM at the same privilege level
If the browser and IDM run with different permissions, download transfer can fail. For example, if IDM always runs as administrator but the browser does not, the browser may not pass the download to IDM correctly. Use normal permissions unless you have a specific reason.
Repair or reinstall IDM
If settings look correct but IDM still does not catch downloads, uninstall IDM, restart Windows, then install the latest official version. After installation, open the browser and allow the IDM extension if prompted.
When the problem is a specific website
Some websites use scripts, streaming methods or temporary download links that behave differently. In that case, update IDM, test another browser, and check whether the download is allowed by the website itself.
Support checklist
When contacting support, include your browser name and version, IDM version, website URL, file type, and a screenshot of what happens. A short screen recording can be useful for download capture issues.
